Business Coaching for Counselors and Other Solo-preneurs
Are you a counselor/therapist or other practitioner in (or preparing for) your own business or practice?
Having a successful, thriving business can feel overwhelming. Balancing the roles of clinician and businessperson can be daunting as you realize that you don't always know what you don't know. Steps and strategies aren't enough; it's important to also tackle the mindset issues that arise as you start or build your practice. There's nothing like starting a business to bring up your inner thoughts of "Who do I think I am?" or "Am I worthy of clients paying for my work?"
Business consulting is a valuable investment in the future of your practice/business, and helps you serve your clients well. An Interview With Jane Carter, LPC, Coach
How did you get started helping people with their businesses?
I went through this process myself! It took me a long time of researching every aspect of successful practice, while trying to just get my gumption up to launch, before I realized that I needed additional support in place to actually succeed in and enjoy my business, while doing great work with my clients. The key was realizing that, although I had learned all the skills and tools (and downloaded all the online freebies!), it was my mindset that needed work. I wasn’t able to “leap” until I got some help with my “Who do I think I am?” and “Am I worth the money?” issues. For several years now, I’ve invested significant time, energy, and money into truly delving into the mindset issues that come up as a private practitioner— and learning how to master them.
One of the best ways to break through these fears and blocks was to have quality coaching from someone who understood the challenges of being a business owner, and helped me navigate them. I now enjoy being that guide for other counselors and therapists who want have plenty of freedom and money in their practice. —Oh, and in the process, I’ve found that running our business well helps us serve our clients better, so it really is win-win!
What kind of people do you work with?
I work with counselors and other therapists who not only want to have a full, profitable business, but they want to love who they are in their practice. They want to feel inspired in their work, to use their creativity, and to enjoy the freedom of managing their own time and approach to their practice. They want work to be fun as well as challenging, and they want to structure their business in a way that allows them to enjoy their non-work lives.
How are you different from other practice-support programs?
I spend a significant amount of time focusing on mindset issues, fears and blocks that come up when people are establishing their practice or taking it to the next level. This is such an important piece of practice success, but it often gets overlooked! There is nothing like starting a business to make all your “stuff” come up, and all the tips & strategies I can give you won’t work unless you know how to navigate the mindset side of things simultaneously. I enjoy being that guide.
I approach success from many angles— training, coaching (telephone, online, or in-person), and helpful tools — so that clients get a holistic, multi-faceted source of support and growth.
